Baby Room Ideas – Practical Decorating

One of the most fun parts of being an expectant mom is the thrill of getting creative and decorating your little angel’s nursery and this is especially true for first-timers. As a mom, it is perfectly understandable that you only want the best for your new baby but with tons of decorating baby room themes and ideas you have in mind, where do you actually start? Do you start with the crib? Do you start with the bedding? What about furniture for the nursery?

The first thing that you have to do is to decide what sort of decorations or theme you are going for in the nursery. Do not go shopping unless you are certain what you want for your baby. It’s so easy to get lost and confused once you get to the store because there’s just so much baby stuff that is irresistible that you’ll want to buy all of them. You end up going home with mismatched items!

Trust me, it’s so much easier to focus when you already know what you’re going to look for. Make a list of all the things you need to decorate the nursery and the most important part is you know what shade of color or colors you need to look for. There are tons of decorating baby room ideas you can find online so if you do not have any idea what theme and decorations you really want, just Google away!

One of the most practical decorating ideas I can give you is to purchase baby room furniture that will evolve along with your child. You can find gorgeous convertible cribs that turn easily into a toddler bed, day bed and full size headboard. Pretty amazing, huh? You can also adjust the mattress to three different heights.

Lighting also plays a huge part when it comes to decorating a nursery. Pay close attention to where the sun shines throughout the day and where outside lights shine in at night. Position the crib away from direct lighting and from there you can work your other baby room decors around it. Make sure you balance the primary overhead lighting with lamps that emit a gentle glow. Nightlights are also great for the baby’s room.

What about the flooring in your baby room? Wall-to-wall carpeting is the most popular choice because it is quiet and warm to walk on. The only problem is that it collects a great deal of dust and dirt. The more practical flooring would be hard wood or cork. Just add area rugs to complement the overall theme of the nursery.
